Trevor Jackson is an exceptional broadcaster, journalist, communicator, voice-over artist and event host. His career is extremely varied and has included stints as a content director, in-flight entertainment host,music director, media trainer, media consultant and more.
He has wealth of experience as a broadcaster and journalist with the rare distinction of having hosted top rating radio programs in 3 capital cities as both a commercial and public broadcaster.
For 3 years he hosted the in depth interview series Conversations for ABC Radio where guests included David Suzuki, Ben Elton, Ita Buttrose, Peter Costello, Don Watson, Jana Wendt, Phillip Noyce, Paul Kelly, Nancy Cartwright, Richard Flanagan, Peter Cosgrove, Michael Franti and John Clarke.
As Content Director and Music Director of 91.7 ABC Gold Coast, Trevor took the station to its highest ratings in over two decades.
He has covered emergencies as both a broadcaster and manager for the ABC, including the Queensland floods of 2010/11 and the Tasmanian bushfires in 2013.
Trevor sees himself as a champion for local artists and the community through leading editorial media content on air and online, including the formation of numerous external partnerships with artistic bodies and festivals developing innovative strategies for creatively successful results.
Trevor is currently working for Study Gold Coast, promoting the Gold Coast as a destination for secondary and tertiary students. With education tourism now worth $20 billion annually in Australia, it’s one of the largest and fastest growing sectors in the country. Trevor’s role with Study Gold Coast is Content Director, with responsibility for sharing the vast number of stories to be told to attract more students to the Gold Coast.
In our discussion Trevor shares his career journey, which has seen him travel and work in locations throughout the east coast of Australia. His work history also includes a stint in the USA ,during a working holiday which saw him travelling around the country with is wife in a ‘69 Ford Mustang.
Trevor shares that with social media and the tools we have have at hand, nowadays we are all journalists, with journalism by definition meaning ‘sharing what you see’.
He also shares some childhood memories of Star Wars (in the days before VHS or DVDs) and his fascination for Clive Robertson on the ABC and Doug Mulray on 2MMM and how they influenced his career choice.
